COLLECTION: WOMEN

Since I began studying the life and oeuvre of this young art photographer, Lene Marie Fossen (1986-2019, Norway), I knew I had to paint her. So this is an homage to her.As I’ve mentioned in some descriptions of my work, what interests me as a creator is abnormality. So the sicknesses and its impact on human experience are one of my interests. I made this work with deep respect and admiration towards this woman and artist.

I made up this work after reading Leonora’s story, ”Cuando iban por el lindero” or "When they were on the edge".

I conceived this work while reading “Profilers: Leading Investigators Take you Inside the Criminal Mind” by Campbell, John H. (John Henry); DeNevi, Don (2004). I made the piece with deep respect for the woman involved in one the cases. Another thing, my work isn’t an apology for crime. It’s just my interpretation of a phenomenon.

I created this artwork after reading about Eva Perón’s afterlife. Her embalmed corpse has a lengthy story. In one of its transcontinental trips, the coffin fell down and the nose broke. This detail inspired me to create the artwork of an anonymous woman with a broken nose.

Since I began studying the life and oeuvre of this young art photographer, Lene Marie Fossen (1986-2019, Norway), I knew I had to paint her. This artist suffered from anorexia and chose to make self portraits. The environment where she made up her work is a deserted 14th century leprosarium in Chios, Greece. I made this work with deep respect and admiration towards this woman and artist.

I based this artwork on a screenshot from a true crime documentary. This with deep respect for the implicated ypung woman. I need to say that I took the idea of the subtitle of the work–“Another Angel in the Crowd”– from one verse of a song of the English rock group, Dire Straits, “Wild West End”. Reality works like in slumbers, it overlaps. Doesn't it?

The drive that a character has in a true crime documentary inspired me to create this artwork. So, the artwork's title, the character's gesture and mood, the special use of light on its face, the close-up format and the palette make up the atmosphere of the work.

As a creator, I’m interested in human nature and what triggers a specific social behavior. I based this portrait on a mugshot of an unknown female inmate. The astonishment of the woman’s expression provoked me to make up the work.

As a creator, I’ve always been concerned with abnormality and its effects in human life. To create this work, I read and watched testimonials of persons united in the same body (some even were twins) living “intersected lives”, such as the admirable story of Abby and Brittany Hensel and many others. I created this work with deep respect for these people.

Women

Welcome to this collection.

What interests me as a creator is abnormality and its impact on human life. I make my work with deep respect towards the women on which I make my studies.

In this collection, I interpret and portray historical females; some renowned characters, others anonymous, but all of their biographies called my attention as an artist and as a woman. I treat most of these creations with drama. This means that, in every work, I try to grasp the character's frantic condition and beauty.

Art Techniques

The techniques I use are traditional (oil and acrylic, crayon, pencil, clay sculpting, etc.) and digital painting (digital tablet, Photoshop, 3D sculpture, etc.).
